Wireless Driveway & Perimeter Alarms, What R They?

These Alarms are designed to help protect & monitor the outside of your home & business, in simple forms the various Alarms will give you an Audible Alert or Alarm inside the House or Office in the event of a Visitor or Intruder being detected, but the systems are often upgraded to suit many different application adding a multitude of accessories including:

  • External Wired or Wireless Sirens.
  • Flashing Lights.
  • Auto-Diallers.

The systems are all designed for Easy DIY Installation, suitable for most customers to fit them themselves.

We also have Telephone Sales advice to help you choose the correct system for your application, together with full Telephone support for after purchase to ensure you get the best from the chosen system.

This support continues during and after the warranty periods in the unlikely event of you having a problem.

Most people would agree that if a burglar gains access to your home (even if at that point a security alarm system is triggered), damage has already been done (physically and mentally), there may be a broken window or door lock that needs time and money to repair, more importantly the owner will often feel very uncomfortable (violated) about a person having been inside their home.

Wireless Outdoor Driveway & Perimeter Alarms Consist Of:

  • Various Types of Detectors (all with different parameters in how they detect, how far they can transmit back to the receiver etc).
  • Receivers (different type of receivers, ranging from simple built in chimes, to activating sirens to actually contacting key-holders by telephone).

All of our systems can be used with multiple Sensors/Detectors allowing you to monitor various locations in & around your Home or Business, they are all Wireless & Battery powered making it possible to fit them in most locations, but you do need to decide which system suits your needs the best.

Advice on Choosing your Wireless Driveway & Perimeter Alarm:

Choosing the right type of Wireless Driveway & Perimeter Alarm can often be daunting, there are many different systems and accessories to choose from, and so many variations in homes, businesses & life styles to think about.

Our advice is that we start by splitting the project up into three areas (D.T.R):

D = Detection.
T = Transmission.
R = Reception.

Please see the details below:

Detection:

  • How many locations do you need to protect ?
  • Are the locations outside or inside (or both) ?
  • How wide is each area you need to monitor ?
  • Would you need to gain access through any of these protected locations when arriving back at the property ?
  • Is there activity from large animals at any of these locations (deer, boar, cattle etc) ?

Transmission:

  • How far away from the location of the receiver would the furthest detector be ?
  • How many (and what type) of obstructions would there be between the two locations?

Reception (the most important part):

In the event of any activation from a detector, what do you want to happen, options are numerous, some examples listed below?

  • Chime from a single receiver.
  • Chime from multiple receivers.
  • A portable pager being activated.
  • A portable pager and internal receiver chiming.
  • Internal siren (short or long duration).
  • Internal siren from one receiver, chime from second receiver (different locations).
  • External siren and chime inside.
  • External & internal siren (what duration).
  • Internal chime and external flashing light.
  • Sending a text message to the key holders.
  • Calling the key holders or guarding company with a pre-recorded personal message.
  • Text message plus triggering external sirens.

The options are endless, you can choose any of the above to cover most types of situations, or you can have a combination of the above (working at different times of the day), more examples below:

  • A working farm may choose to have a chime inside the house and pager on their belt during working hours, but have a very loud siren working during the night.
  • A home may choose to have a chime during the day and a loud siren at night.
  • A business may choose to have a text message sent to a key holding guard at night, and a chime inside the office during the day.
  • A home with a pool may choose to have a chime audible from the pool for times when they are there, and a chime inside the house for other times.
  • A building company may choose to have nothing working during the day, but sirens and telephone dialers being activated at other times if intruders gain access to a site or scaffolding.
  • A holiday home may choose to have a loud audible siren at the house which is triggered by a detector protecting a vulnerable rear entrance at night, having a chime in the evening, but also have a text message for times when they are not living there.

Passive or Active Detection:

Another very valuable piece of advice is being aware of the difference between Passive & Active Detector Beams.

  • Passive Beams: these are one sided infrared detectors which are constantly looking for a difference in the temperature in front of them, caused by a person, animal or vehicle walking past, (think of a video showing a police helicopter following a person at night, and the person can be seen clearly even in the darkest of nights).
    • The advantages of these detectors are that because they are one sided they can be easily and quickly installed, they can be partially hidden out of sight.
  • Active Beams:  these are two detectors which are constantly looking at each other, at any time when they cannot see each other they will trigger, our active beams are mostly powered by solar panels making for easier installation and have built in dual beams designed to reduce false alarms should a leaf or piece of debris blow past in the wind.
    • The advantages of these detectors are that they are far more responsive with virtually no chance of them missing an activation (especially useful when vehicles are involved which can be moving fast and sometimes cold).
    • Wider areas can be protected (up to 100 metres or 300 ft) with a single set of beams.

Hopefully, by simply splitting this project up into the three separate areas, it has made it easier for you to make an informed decision, if you need further advice please contact us.

As well as the Wireless Driveway Alarms, we have a selection of other Outdoor Alarms that may suit you needs more, or you may feel that using one of these together with a Driveway Alarm best suits your needs, listed below are just a few other types of Outdoor Alarms:

  • Siren & Outdoor PIR's: (the siren would double up as the control panel & would be armed & disarmed using remote control during the times you need protection, in the event of a person passing the PIR the Siren would activate, this would inform the Intruder they have triggered an Alarm who would then hopefully retreat).
  • Siren & Gate or External Door Magnetic Contact: (the same as above but the the Siren would only activate if a gate or door was opened, again we would hope the Intruder would then retreat).
  • GSM Alarms: (we can supply hidden battery powered Alarms that will call your mobile if activated, these Alarms could be set to function in Silent mode or in conjunction with Sirens).
  • Scaffold Alarms: (we have a selection of Alarms that can be used in and around Scaffolding & Building sites).
  • Restricted Access Alarms: (we can supply alarms to monitor & protect restricted boundaries).

If you have a specific need for any type of External or Outdoor Alarm and you cannot see an obvious answer on the web site, please contact us for advice, if we do not have one on the shelf, we can often make one up for you.
